‘Tis the season for holiday cheer at Grand Sierra Resort and Casino
Reno’s premier gaming-resort to host the Lights of Kindness presented by The Nevada Diabetes Association, and will also serve as home to28th annual KTVN Share Your Christmas Drive By Food Drive
RENO, Nev. (Dec. 8, 2020) – It’s the most wonderful time of the year at GSR! Grand Sierra Resort and Casino (GSR) captures the spirit of the holiday season by giving back to the local community, as well as offering festive decorations throughout the resort and ice skating at The Ice Rink.
GSR will host the Lights of Kindness, northern Nevada’s largest holiday tree decorating contest to benefit local charities, presented by The Nevada Diabetes Association. Starting Thursday, Dec. 10, decorated trees will be placed within a Holiday Tree Hunt throughout Reno’s premier resort-casino, where guests can vote for their favorite holiday tree. Each tree is dedicated to a local charity and for every vote cast, $1 will be donated to the nonprofit organization that tree represents. The top three trees collecting the most votes will win a grand prize donated by GSR.
In the spirit of the season, GSR will also serve as the home of the 28th annual KTVN Share Your Christmas Drive By Food Drive on Friday, Dec. 11 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as The Governor’s Mansion in Carson and the Carson Valley Inn in Minden. Beneficiaries of the event include Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Advocates to End Domestic Violence, Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Friends in Service Helping in Carson, and the Carson Valley Food Closet.
In addition to supporting the community in this season of giving, GSR has transformed into a picturesque winter wonderland as northern Nevada’s home for the holidays. As guests enter through the front entrance, Santa Claus is there to greet everyone on his sleigh. Located under the resort’s one-of-a-kind main entrance lobby chandelier, guests can explore Santa’s Village, a stunning display surrounded by magnificent holiday trees, decorative garland, festive lanterns and twinkling lights with a miniature GSR in the heart of the display. For guests unable to make their way to GSR, the resort will bring the holiday spirit to them through a 360° virtual tour of the display.
Skate into the season at The Ice Rink at GSR! Fun for the whole family, The Ice Rink invites guests to glide and twirl around the magnificent outdoor rink while enjoying the heated resort pool, fire pits, a full-service bar and seasonal treats, including Lavon’s world-famous chili ($10), s’mores kit ($10) and hot chocolate ($4), to warm the body and satisfy the spirit. Open daily throughout the winter season from 3:30 p.m. through 10:30 p.m., snow bunnies can reserve tickets for two-hour skate sessions for $15, including skate rentals, and complete waivers online at grandsierraresort.com.
Take in all that GSR has to offer this holiday season, where leadership recently collaborated with health experts to develop GSR Clean, a program that enhances the resort’s already rigorous sanitation protocols and implements social distance guidelines and hundreds of additional practices to minimize risk for guests and team members.
